I was looking through the Leeds Festival forum, and I found a thread which features answers to fans who asked the festival promoter a question. This was the first question:

'What's the reasoning behind Paramore being booked?'

And this was the promoters answer:

'Most importantly they’re a great live band and they’ve got a new album out around the festivals so makes sense on that level. Also I like to try and get acts before the headliners that are different but which complement them. So with The Cure being a more established act, someone younger with a female singer, works well. They’re also a big act making exclusive festival appearances for us, their last UK tour sold over 100,000 tickets and whilst they may have loud detractors on forums they also figure very highly on every poll we run. This year’s marmite band I guess but there’s a lot of people who want to see them.'

Got something interesting for Paramore fans from the land of lethal pine cones. Faster Louder wrote two articles (one recent, the other one from a few weeks ago) about hints that were or might be dropped by Soundwave organizer AJ Maddah about what acts might or might not be scheduled for the next Soundwave in February.

You guys are working on your new album, I heard that it's being produced by Meldal-Johnsen, who most recently worked on M83's albums. How was it working with him on this album and how would you compare it to previous albums?
At this point, we have recorded one song with Justin. That time in the studio was easily the most relaxed, inspired, and liberating experiences we have had in any studio thus far. We are huge fans of his work not only as a producer but as a musician, writer and musical director. He wears all those hats well and with a lot of humility.
What is the main inspiration behind the new record?
I am laughing things off a lot more easily these days than I was at 19, when I wrote the last album. A lot of change... a lot of positivity. Even the songs with the more serious subject matter feel less toiled and troubled. Musically, I am most inspired by the personality captured in every instrument. That, to me, is actually what is making up this newer sound that is happening.

Are you guys planning on doing any touring or festivals this spring/summer? If so where can we expect to see you?

Yes! We are one of the headliner's at Reading and Leeds fest this year! We play, literally, right before The Cure. Someone is going to have to help me stand up when I see Robert Smith.
Do you prefer to be touring and out on the road, or home recording and living the day to day life?

I prefer the business of touring, but the convenience of home and having my own big shampoo bottles and pillows and healthy foods. Traveling and playing shows is worth losing all the unnecessary comfort though. Really, there are people starving and without beds, I think I can do without a designated toilet for a couple months.

You get to travel all the time for your job, Is there one place you haven't gone that you would love to visit?

Iceland. It's always seemed so mysterious to me. Maybe just because of Bjork but anyway, I would love to play a show and spend a week there.
How would you describe your personal style, Where do you pull your inspiration from?
My style, to me, seems more like the anti-style. I never feel like I'm really wearing a popular trend or something that a lot of other girls would just kill to wear. As I get older, my interest in beautiful things is peaking but I still feel most comfortable in pants or more androgynous styles. I could've never lived in a day where it wasn't seen as socially acceptable for women to wear pants. Rude Girl vibes are especially inspiring to me right now. Plus, being in California where the sun is always out and the palm trees look like Tim Burton characters... Everyone looks cool with a backdrop like that.

Favorite designers?

I've worn a lot of Miu Miu and always feel great in their clothing. Rag & Bone and J Brand seem to understand denim, or at least my idea of jeans, and I appreciate that. I also really love Helmut Lang. I don't know a lot about their brand but it feels like they really honor a woman's power in most of their designs. I was just looking at some of their blazer/pant looks for a/w 2012 and I know I would feel like a superwoman in some of those pieces.

Do you have a favorite brand of bright colored non conventional hair dyes?
I have never been loyal to any one kind. I'd love to have my own line.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I'm great at leaving my purse in the movie theater.

Five things you can't live without?

My family, pen and paper (can that count as one?), Wayne's World, hot tea, faith.

Last really good movie or TV show you loved?
Girls! Obsessed.

Funny you ask, my friends and I have Craft Thursdays! Really it's just a night for us to be girls and talk and be creative... And make root beer floats.

Six months ago I would've said night owl. But after being off the road for so long, I love my mornings.

Favorite restaurant ever and where?

Native Foods. We need one in Nashville! When I go back I'll be having the worst withdrawals.

What's your favorite band / music at the moment?

My favorite band has always been mewithoutYou... For like ten years now. But my love for music stemmed from old Motown artists like The Temptations. Right now, I'm loving Alabama Shakes cause they've got those vibes but it's grittier. So great.

Traveling all over the world with the time zones must catch up with you and leave some serious jet lag! Best cure for it, do you try to beat it or give in!?
I give in every time. Grab some tea, put on a movie and I'm out.
What's something about you that might surprise your fans that they wouldn't know, or expect?

Which Artist Will Break Jay-Z's Live Concert Record At The OMAs? -by Nichole James

So we've already told you guys about some cool-ass s*** that's gonna go down at the O Music Awards this year – MTV’s going to attempting to break another world record! As we previously told you, one courageous musical act is hitting the road in an effort to beat Jay-Z's current record of the most live concerts in 24 hours in multiple cities. The artist will board a bus and zigzag across the southeast hitting a total of eight cities, starting in Memphis and ending in New Orleans. Oh, and it's gonna be the world’s first 24-hour, livestreamed awards show, so you can watch the whole thing the real time. Breakin' records all over the place.

Now, naturally we can't stop wondering who this artist is going to be. We'll find out Wednesday, May 23, who these brave heroes are, but being on the inside of things at MTV, we’ve come across some solid clues as to this mystery musician’s identity. Here’s what we’re thinking

1.) What if it's Jay-Z trying to break his own record?
2.) Better yet -- what if Beyonce's trying to break her husband's record! (BRB, booking a Memphis hotel.)
3.) Or -- and I just gave myself a heart attack thinking about this -- what if the OMAs mark a Britney-Justin Timberlake duet!?!?!? They ARE from the South! You never know.
4.) Paramore! They’re also from the South, and they’re heading out to the UK this summer, so maybe this would be a warmup?

MTV said this attempt will happen on June 27th. And according to site for the Guinness Book of World Records, Jay Z was able set the record with 7 concerts in a single day back in 2006 (link).

Two things from a interview with Nate Ruess with NME...

-Asked about the performance, Ruess said: "I think it went well. It was a pretty hectic morning, we were never sure how linking Hayley into the show was going to go, it seemed like a pretty daunting technological task."

-Ruess added that though they'd performed on stage many times with Williams, this is the first time they'd arranged something together. He added: "We've never worked together, she'd always come up and sing with us when we were on tour, so we've sort of worked together."

Then asked if he'd heard anything of the new Paramore record or if he'd be making an appearance, Ruess said: "I'm not going to be involved at all. I'm going to be a fan from a far. I think we might meet up in L.A and hang out in a few weeks, but I like to stay as far away as possible from any artists who are friends. I refuse to listen to demos, so I've not heard anything."

mewithoutYou's Ten Stories: The Year's Best Circus-Train Concept Album -by James Montgomery

Philadelphia band gets an assist from Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams on standout new album, in Bigger Than the Sound.

In September 2009, Hayley Williams gave me a tour of her home in Franklin, Tennessee. It wasn't the usual kind of rock-star pad, for about a million reasons (there were a lot of "I Love Lucy" Barbie dolls), most notably what was playing on her Michael Jackson turntable at the time: a copy of mewithoutYou's It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All a Dream! It's Alright.

I only mention it now for a couple of reasons: One, it led to the first — and, to this day, only — conversation I've ever had with someone about mewithoutYou (they aren't exactly what you'd call a "unifying" band), and two, because as luck would have it, they have a new album out Tuesday (May 15), Ten Stories, which features Williams on a pair of tracks and is probably the best thing they've ever done. Or at least the most recent.

Music News

That's the thing about mewithoutYou, who, in case you aren't aware (and you probably aren't), hail from Philadelphia, have been making albums for a decade now (in between losing members to grad school/ their frontman threatening to quit and donate all his possessions to the poor) and have fashioned a sort of anti-career out of coming dangerously close to success, only to veer away at the last possible second (usually into an embankment or something): They are not exactly an easy band to like. Or pin down. Wait, that didn't come out right. What I meant to say is that they are a challenging band to like. And an impossible one to pin down. Which is, I suppose, why I only know two people who are actually fans.

Their first two albums, 2002's [A→B] Life and '04's Catch for Us the Foxes, were careening, crashing exercises in sheer volume (I think the kids called it "post-hardcore"), the latter of which featured the sorta-single "January 1979," brought them a fair amount of mainstream attention and was, according to me at least, one of the best rock records of the past decade. They started wandering off the leaden path with '06's Brother, Sister and then fully embraced lead singer Aaron Weiss' spiritual voyages (and Sufi mysticisms) on It's All Crazy, ditching the wattage in favor of hushed tones and a genuine grace. Of course, they also thoroughly confused what remained of their core fanbase in the process, but that was almost beside the point.

Because with Ten Stories (which, in true mwY fashion, features 11 tracks), they've made it clear that they're never going to be the same roaring act they were in the early aughts. Instead, they seem to have stumbled into a kind of beatific balance: Sure, they still call songs stuff like "Fox's Dream of the Log Flume" and "Grist for the Malady Mill," and, yes, on occasion Weiss still sings/shouts/spouts like a freegan preacherman, but there is a honed focus to the album, a willful maturity and a confidence that only comes when bands realize they can pack as much of a punch with instrumentation as opposed to sheer volume. Part of this was probably inevitable, of course, but it bears mention that Ten Stories draws thematic inspiration from a book Weiss read about a circus-train crash in Montana (hey, why not?) and as such earns the distinction of not only being their most cohesive record, but the first where they don't seem all that concerned with converting the masses (sample quote from Weiss, circa the Brother, Sister album: "I want to tell people God is love. That's my eternal, unchanging reality"). Instead, this time out, they just seem content.

And that's exactly where they should be. From the pastoral guitar work of "Cardiff Giant" and the plaintive drift of "Aubergine" to the woozy dramatics of "Bear's Vision of St. Agnes" and blooming surge of album closer "All Circles," Ten Stories is very much an album born out of quiet confidence, of willful resignation. Sure, Weiss is still on his lifelong spiritual quest — on "East Enders Wives," he keens, "I'm still counting on you like an invisible rosary" — but he's mellowed significantly as the decade has worn on, perhaps finally finding some semblance of inner peace. They even manage to weave Williams into the mix with startling restraint (she is unquestionably the biggest name they've ever collaborated with, unless you could Sunny Day Real Estate's Jeremy Enigk): Her voice is less of a main attraction as it is an additional instrument, another part of the sonic flourish.

It's a truly great album — the kind only a group like mewithoutYou could make, and only at this point in their career (or whatever you want to call it). Call it maturity, if you want to, I prefer to think of it as artistic growth: an accomplished, beautiful record from an equally accomplished (if not severely overlooked) band. But who knows, with Ten Stories, that last bit might change. Hey, Hayley Williams is on it.

Photo Coverage: Rachel Potter and Constantine Maroulis Prep for Joe's Pub Concert!

BroadwayWorld brings you photos of EVITA's Rachel Potter and ROCK OF AGES' Constantine Maroulis rehearsing in the studio for Potter's upcoming release concert for her debut country EP, "Live the Dream." She and Maroulis will perform at Joe's Pub tomorrow, May 13.

This independent release marks Potter's first collaboration with songwriter and producer Justin York. "It's got real guts," says Potter of the co-written EP, "We wanted to make a record that joined pop country music with a rock edge - Think Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift with a Paramore twist. It's a risk, but it's exciting."

Potter is currently appearing as the Mistress in this season's buzzworthy Broadway revival, Evita. She appears alongside Ricky Martin, Elena Roger, and Michael Cerveris at the Marquis Theater. She made her Broadway debut as "Wednesday Addams" in The Addams Family starring Brooke Shields, following a tour with Stephen Schwartz's smash hit musical, Wicked. Rachel has also performed the roles of Ariel, Belle, and Nemo, among others, at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The evening at Joe's Pub will feature guest appearances by Cosmo-Country sensation The Vanity Belles, and The Country Band featuring Marty Thomas, in addition to Constantine Maroulis.

Here's something from an article on Fuse about rapper Kitty Pryde...

This morning, The FADER brought us the premiere of Kitty Pryde's "Okay Cupid" video, starring the 17-year-old Daytona Beach, FL rapper (that name sounds familiar, right?), who lit up the internet with the original song when it dropped on April 11. She calls herself "the jailbait Hayley Williams of rap," and that sounds about right.
